Splendid Costumes

The Theater Museum in Vienna invites visitors to experience theater costumes in a new way. Visitors can join a guided tour through the exhibition, where they can have a close look on costumes in their cultural, historical and social context. After a coffee and cake break, costume experts will shed more light on their work. The textile artist Ute Neuber will have a lecture on February 3, as well as a performance on May 5. Save the dates!

Bring your Own Beamer in Vienna

The off-space Magazin Vienna is hosting the BANG BANG BEAM | B Y O B VIDEONIGHT. Founded as a moving event in Berlin, BYOB (Bring your own beamer) invites various artists to come with their own projector to present their video and media-art works. The large number of artists and works participating in such an evening make it an organic- process based event, which can create all possible outcomes.

Austrian Film Awards 2011

The Austrian film industry has shown an impressive track record in the last years, with national and international recognition and appreciation. For the first time, the Austrian Film Academy has nominated best candidates in all areas of film making. For Best Costume design three nominees are chosen for their fantastic work: Caterina Czepek for Mahler auf der Couch, Martina List for Das Vaterspiel, and Thomas Oláh for Women without Men.

Ringstrasse meets Berlin

ImageThe Austrian Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture offers again 90 different scholarships for young artists in the following areas: Fine Arts, Architecture and Design, Photography, Video and Media Art, Fashion, Music and Performing Arts, Film and Literature.

Robert La Roche loves Lena Hoschek

Designs of the year 2011
ImageThe Design Museum in London have announced the designs nominated for the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year 2011. The shortlist of nearly 90 designs across the fields of architecture, product, furniture, fashion, graphic, interactive and transport design will be on show at the museum from 16 February to 7 August.
Four Austrian projects are shortlisted: Tape Installations by For Use/Numen ( Architecture ), Dune designed by Rainer Mutsch, Manufactured By Eternit ( Furniture ), Design Criminals Edible Catalogue designed by Andreas Pohancenik ( Graphics ) and Quarz Series designed by Max Lamb ( UK ), Manufactured by J & L Lobmeyr ( Product )

The overall Brit Insurance Design of the Year will be announced at the Awards Dinner on 15 March 2011.

The Humanity in Fashion Design Award for green fashion is awarded by hessnatur for the first time. Funding is available to young designers from Europe. 3 collections are nominated that are presented at an official ceremony to the press and the public in Berlin. The winner will receive an exclusive contract on the establishment of a Capsule Collection for hessnatur including a funding for a total of 25,000 €.
The nominees are: Julia Knüpfer (Soft Bonds), Janosch Mallwitz (Graduation), Anja Umann (Umasan)

Paris Men's Fall Winter

Paris men's fashion week will kick off parallel to Berlin's fashion week. The following Austrian designers will showcase their collections in Paris: Superated @ Rendez-Vous, Michaela Bürger @ Valerie Demure Showroom, Petar Petrov @ Tranoi (his show is on January 22) and FLorian (check details here). And, though not Austrian, but a huge contribution to our next generation of designers, Bernhard Willhelm. For those following the Austrian highlights in Paris, don't forget to check Erwin Wurm's exhibition at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac. The exhibition will be open until February 12.

Fashion Forward 2011 Winners
ImageThe Fashion Forward scheme sponsored by Coutts & Co and supported by the London Development Agency, was established 5 years ago to provide funding to talented emerging British designers to show and develop their businesses in London.

For the first time three winners have been awarded the sponsorship last night: Todd Lynn, Meadham Kirchhoff and Austrian-born Peter Pilotto. Congratulations!

Vienna Awards for Fashion & Lifestyle: New this year-Austrian creatives can send their submissions for nominations until the 15th of January. The award categories are in: Designer Branding (CI), Fashion Journalist, Hair Stylist, Make up, Stylist, Accessory Designer, Photographer, Model and Designer. Ringstraßen-Galerien Designer Award: Deadline for applications is February the 15th.

A new art, architecture and design magazine is on the market, created by no other than the MAK museum. The magazine, called cleverly MAK/ZINE and printed bilingually in German and English, is to be released several times a year and will be focusing on diverse artistic and cultural topics. Its first edition, which is out now, has been inspired by the current exhibit at the MAK entitled Envisioning Buildings: Reflecting Architecture in Contemporary Art Photography and features in-depth articles as well as stunning photography. Establishing itself as an informative guide and communicative gate for various disciplines with a modern edge, MAK/ZINE is sure to gain a cult following and see us through many years to come.

The exhibition is on until 22nd April 2012

Pitti Immagine will host in Florence, once again, a huge fashion fair, presenting 1,010 brands and 1,090 collections of local and international designers. Even Austria will have representatives at the fair: DUKES FINEST VINTAGE ARTISANLUDWIG REITER, SCHNEIDERS and STEINBOCK MODE.
New this year, and for the first time is the e-Pitti project: a virtual fair that will present the physical fair experience online. In addition to the online experience, you can follow the PITTI WEB TV.
