MAK NITE: Patterns of Aura
In an intriguing cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute in Vienna, this
time’s Mak Nite will feature an exploration into the depths of fashion, focusing on
the mysterious phenomenon of the aura. Entitled ‘Patterns of Aura’, this fashion
performance by the Bucharest-based art collective APPARATUS 22 is representing
a poetical and elusive fashion collection of 15 pieces of mens- and womenswear,
allowing you to enter a deep ‘hyper-state of fashion’. As a surprise bonus, the
Romanian musician Syllyconductor will be doing a mix to suit the unconventional
mood of the evening.

The graduating class of the Hetzendorf Fashion School in cooperation with The University of Art and Design Linz will for the first time present their final-year designs in a group
exhibition. Going for a more varied and interdisciplinary spectrum, photo and video
installations will be presented alongside the student’s fashion creations. Setting
fashion in a more open context, the exhibition proves that fashion can be intersected
with other art forms and so made interesting not only for the fashion fans. Don`t
forget to pick up the printed publication of the student’s designs, making for a great
reference and style guide!
Vernissage: 28th September, 7pm
1010, Georg-Coch-Platz 2
Nilbar Güres: UNDRESSING
Exploring the often racist and hostile view on Muslim women in Austria, the Turkish Vienna-based artist Nilbar Güres is presenting an exceptional video performance named ‘Undressing’. Presented by the increasingly prominent platform EIKON, Güres offers a deeply personal statement with a biographical note. The head-scarf becomes the main focus of the presentation, symbolizing, with its choice of fabric or style of wearing, the individuality and independence of a seemingly restrictive piece of cloth. Come have a truly culturally enhancing experience!

London Fashion Week
2011|09|16 - 21
The quirkiest of all the fashion week siblings-London, has rightfully earned the reputation of a young designers’ friendly event. More than anywhere else are young fresh ideas supported and presented on the same level with Burberry or Vivienne Westwood. No different this year, London’s Newgen scheme, pushing forward yet unknown names has brought up some of the biggest names in fashion now. The Austrians Marios Schwab or Peter Pilotto, among others, have star-rocketed thanks to London’s experimental attitude, and we are very happy they did so.
