Mozarts Modewelten
An exhibition following the musical prodigy’s extravagant style and love for all things fashionable.
It is not surprising that Mozart’s letters contain extremely rich commentaries on textiles, clothing, wigs and accessories of the time. He was a deeply aesthetically feeling person, and the exhibition Mozarts Modewelten (Mozart’s Fashion Worlds) pays homage to his avant-garde tastes which riled up the conservative society of his time. Commemorating the 300th birthday of Leopold Mozart, the showcase also takes the opportunity to relate the extensive correspondence of the family with historical costumes of the 18th century, with illustrations of fashion magazines and costumes of the time. Visitors will learn about the courtly and bourgeois fashion of the Mozart period, as it presents itself in the mirror of the family tradition.
