Sigalit Landau. Salt Years
Objects baptised by the Dead Sea and revealing an ethereal quality of the timelapse of life.
One of Israel’s foremost contemporary artists - Sigalit Landau, works with sculpture, video and installations mediums to create powerful works, often tackling questions such as female identity, body experiences, or political situations. For this exhibition at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, she showcases several objects which have been suspended in the world’s saltiest sea for months, until covered in salt crystals. This process transforms them into objects with haunting beauty and a poetical, almost too fragile symbolism. Her deeply moving artworks reveal the transformative, sustaining, and healing properties of salt, while also showing its destructive power. Some of her piece of textiles offer a beautiful look at the handmade, covered in crystals of time.
