Viennese Modernism

Vienna celebrates Modernism in 2018. Four of its most important protagonists died 100 years ago: Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Otto Wagner and Koloman Moser. They had a lasting impact on Vienna in the years around 1900.

In 2018 Vienna will celebrate Modernism and four of the era’s chief protagonists, all of whom died in 1918. The painters Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, the architect Otto Wagner and the universal artist Koloman Moser all left an indelible mark on Vienna around 1900. Their life and work will be remembered at numerous exhibitions and events during the anniversary year. Then as now, Vienna was a vibrant hub for the arts and the creative sector.

The beautifully designed new site of the Vienna Tourist Board follows the tendencies, artists, concepts and ideas of the artistic time, inviting you on a journey into time and aesthetic feeling. Discover more about the quintessential Viennese art movement, and see how it continues to shape the city and its artists, creators, and inhabitants to this day.
