VDF x AUSTRIANFASHION.NET
AUSTRIANFASHION.NET presents 15 innovative Austrian fashion and product designers at the world’s first online design festival.

The 15 selected products are from the following labels:
Aeternum / Isabel Helf / Brandan Josh / Julia Körner / Wilfried Mayer / Narbon / Agnes
Nordenholz / Christina Seewald / Skarabeos / Steinwidder / Sagan Vienna X Kenneth Ize / Matthias Winkler / Sassa Ann Van Wyk / Petra Zimmermann / Natalie Zipfl
The selection represents shoe, jewellery, bag and fashion design and was not least inspired by the working methods of the fashion designers. They use both handicraft and digital techniques; 3D printing is featured next to upcycling, embroidery, custom tailoring, bag-making, goldsmithery and shoemaking. The decisive factor was an innovative approach – be that in terms of technology or experimental design. What they all have in common is local and sustainable production.

Fashion labels are particularly affected by the consequences of the shutdown. Presentations in international forums are either impossible or extremely difficult. Despite the current crisis, the VDF x AUSTRIANFASHION.NET collaboration provides a virtual showcase for designers on dezeen.com, attracting a global audience interested in design.
For AUSTRIANFASHION.NET co-founder and curator Claudia Rosa Lukas, the cooperation with Dezeen was an opportunity to continue promoting contemporary Austrian fashion design even during the shutdown. In the past, she has organized exhibitions in London, Shanghai, Berlin and Istanbul. At a time when it is impossible to travel and there is a lack of international audiences for exhibitions, the collaboration with the strong partner Dezeen provided a perfect alternative to physical presentations.
About the Virtual Design Festival
Based in London and New York, Dezeen is one of the leading media in the field of architecture and design. The idea for the Virtual Design Festival was born due to the cancellation of Milan Design Week 2020, which completely unexpectedly deprived designers of the opportunity to physically present their latest products. The Virtual Design Festival now offers them an online forum in front of a large international audience. The Dezeen website attracts more than two million visitors per month.
The Virtual Design Festival kicked off with a Zoom talk between Dezeen founder Marcus Fairs and trend researcher Li Edelkoort. With contributions by leading personalities from the design scene, the format has already received a lot of attention and positive feedback. Designer Ron Arad said: “A great initiative to bring us together in these extraordinary times.”
With its partner Dezeen, AUSTRIANFASHION.NET has once again succeeded in making Austrian fashion labels visible even in the difficult shutdown period and in keeping the discourse alive.
