Modest Fashion*
*An international phenomenon in art and fashion.
The past few years have marked a fast rise of our awareness of modest fashion, and the designers have begun catering to the up and coming trend even faster. Presenting cutting edge fashion which is far from exibitionist or revealing, modest fashion takes up the route of mysterious beauty and respect. The clothes, worn by women who do not wish to participate in the established rules of aesthetic nudity, return power to the wearer, and away from the restraints and the male gaze of society. Modest fashion is about freedom of choice and creativity of women everywhere. The exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of female suffrage in the Netherlands, and at the same time celebrates the fact that 100 years ago the first woman took a seat in the Town Council of Schiedam.
